hammertoes; claw toes

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Jun 25, 2001 9:35 pm

I had back surgery 8 years ago and now have permanent nerve damage in both legs with numbness and tingliness. Since surgery my toes on my left foot have started to curl up. I just thought it was corns/calluses. My doc recently told me I may have claw toes or possibly claw foot. Could this be caused by the nerve damage in my legs? I am seeking medical attention in the near future to have this diagnosed but I just came upon this web site and thought I would put this question out to you.
Thank you.

If the nerve damage is severe enough that it is causing muscles in the feet to atrophy, then muscle imbalances can occur which can lead to hammertoes.
