How to treat hammertoes in elderly?I believe that my grandma has hammertoes in her right foot -- her third toe is starting to curl and she said that it is painful when she walks since it rubs up against her shoe. I have seen some heel/toe straps and gel caps on the Internet that claim to alleviate the pain of hammertoes. What do you suggest that we do to treat her hammertoes? I am afraid it is going to get worse if left untreated. Thanks!

Re: How to treat hammertoes in elderly? You probably do not want to have the toes surgically fixed depending upon her age and health status. However, a podiatrist can make special pads for her feet and toes to protect them. Therefore, you really should have her see a podiatrist rather than buying devices over the internet that make actually do more harm than good.
