19/m/TN severe hammer toe due to brain injury

Post a new topicby devin on Wed Feb 20, 2008 12:54 am

In 2002 I was in a truck accident when I was 13, an was in a coma for about 8 1/2 months. I suffered a traumatic brain injury and paralasys on the left side of my body. After I woke up from a coma my toes started to curl on my left foot. I have tried botox and phenol/alcohal injentions. I've even cut the tendons in my toes an put pins in them so that they would grow back straight. I can't walk without my shoes. if anyone has any suggestions I would love to here them, for I am running out of avenues.

this is a contracture due to either spasticity of the flexor tendons of flacidity of the extensors...either way the primary method of stabilizing these toes should be a fusion of the metatarsal-phalangeal or more likely the proximal interphalangeal joints of the affected toes...simple tendon procedures and pinning will not resolve this problem...
