I have just recently been diagnosed hammertoe by my GP. In 3 weeks I will see a specialist to discuss treatment options. After reading questions in um I'm wondering if I should just live it? Will condition worsen if I opt no treatment? I am in my late 60's will be retiring soon so I won't be on my feet as much. I would appreciate any advise could offer. Thanks.

The hammertoe probably will worsen over time. However, if it is not hurting you, surgery is not needed. Also, a podiatrist can provide you with conservative treatment options such as padding to help straighten the toe. Many people live with hammertoes so you do not have to get surgery. However, hammertoe surgery is fairly simple so it is an option. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
