From bad fascia to bad heelsAfter suffering from what appeared to be the beginning of plantar fasciitis for ~3 months, I bought some decent $60 OTC inserts. That helped with the sensation of foot instability and slight arch discomfort just forward of my heels; my doctor referred me to an orthotic/prosthetic facility. Re: From bad fascia to bad heelsit sounds like plantar fasciitis may not be the cause of your heel pain. if it were, it should have reasonably responded well to custom prescription orthotic therapy. i highly recommend another consultation with a podiatrist to have the condition re-evaluated. perhaps a bone scan is needed to rule out something like a stress fracture to the heel bone, which is quite common among avid runners or hikers. i am a podiatrist who treats a fair number of patients with heel pain secondary to plantar fasciitis, and your pattern of events or symptoms just don't fit the description.
