heel painI've been experiencing severe heel pain in my right foot. The pain is obviously internal not external. Consequently, my right leg swells up when I'm on my feet for an extensive period of time. I've been shifting my wait to my left leg and have started feeling the same pain in my left heel. I've tried moist heat, ice, raising my leg onto a stack of pillows. Nothing seems to work. Please Help.

Re: heel painThere are two possibilities. One is exactly what you think where swelling is occurring due to a problem in your heel area. However, another good possibility is that swelling is occurring due to a condition such as varicose veins or simply being on your feet too much. This swelling causes the nerves around your ankle to become entrapped and this causes severe pain that can even feel like it is coming from the bone. This would be known as tarsal tunnel syndrome and you can read more about it under the conditions section of podiatrychannel.com. In either case, you need to see a podiatrist in order to be properly diagnosed and treated. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.

Re: Re: heel painThank you for responding to my question. I'm waiting for my insurance to become effective before I see a podiatrist. In the interim, is there anything I can do to possibly eleviate the pressure/pain?

Re: Re: Re: heel painHonestly, the best thing you can do is to try and rest and elevate your feet as much as possible. You may want to try an ACE bandage but this could also worsen the pain.
