Heel PainI am a long distance runner. I was coming back from an injury probably a bit too fast and have experienced pain in my foot. There is pain and swelling at the back of my foot on either side of my achilles tendon. My achilles does not hurt but either side of it is very tender to the touch. I have taken some time off running and whenever I try to start up again, the pain returns. While running there is pain in the sore area and on the bottom of my heel as well.
Do you know what this is and have any tips for treatment. I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you.
Re: Heel PainThe achilles tendon contracts when it is not being exercised. Therefore, it is very important to stretch your achilles before and after running. If you have not been doing this, you probably have achilles tendinitis and it commonly occurs to runners when they try to start up again. It can also cause plantar fasciitis which is the pain on the bottom of your foot. If stretching does not relieve the pain, you should be examined by a podiatrist. The other possible condition you may have is a bursitis in the area but this is less likely. Therefore, see a podiatrist if the pain continues.
