Inflammed plantar fascia w/pain. Can I still cycle?

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Aug 02, 2002 9:21 am

I've experienced heel pain in the mornings since Saturday when I stood/danced for six hours at a rock concert. (Yes, in very improper shoes--but they were cute!) After some online research, I think its safe to assume that my plantar fascia (left foot) has become inflammed and tight. I'll begin doing stretches in the evening to try to loosen it up some.

I've never had heel pain before and it isn't severe. However, I know how these things can get worse if not rested properly. My question is, can I still ride or should I stay off the bike for a little while? How long? On the bike I use a pair of Look P337 pedals with about 4 degrees of float.

Thanks

You can still ride especially since this is not the activity that caused the problem. You may benefit from an anti-inflammatory medicine and the most imprtant factor is too stretch your arches before you get oyut of bed in the morning. Stretching at this time rather than getting out of bed with tight ligaments is the key to a faster recovery.
