Possible tendon injury?

Post a new topicby synistasia on Tue Jul 01, 2008 11:25 am

While playing softball and wearing cleats, I was tracking a fly ball from the hard clay infield to the outfield grass. As I crossed onto the grass, the uneven surface caused me to come down hard on my right foot. The ankle didn't turn at all, but I immediately felt severe pain in the heel and had difficulty putting any pressure on it. Still in pain the following morning, I went to have it x-rayed and they came back negative. The dr. said it was a deep bruise and that these injuries are very painful because there is little room for even a small amount of swelling in that area. Originally, the area was painful to the touch. Now a week and a half later, I can walk on it carefully with minimal pain, but the outside edge of the heel is still very sore. After reviewing the anatomy images, the area of pain appears to exactly match the inferior peroneal retinaculum. There has been no achilles swelling, soreness, or tightness, nor any pain in any other region of the foot or leg. It seems likely that it is, in fact, a bruise, or that I have simply strained the tendon and it will take a while to fully heal (I'm 40 yoa), but I'm interested in the opinions of others who have more experience with these types of injuries than me. Thanks !!
