4 year old with Ingrown ToenailsI am the mother of two children, 4 and 10. My 4 year old son has ingrown toenails on both pinky toes. I am not even sure if it's ingrown toenails, but it's hurting him. At the end of his original pinky toe, there is a split and then you see another nail that looks like another toenail is growing right beside it and the growing toenail is covered with skin. After his bath, I've tried pushing back the skin on the growning toenail, and clipping off the skin that grows over it. He is going to visit a podiatrist soon. If someone has heard of anything like this, please help me.
Re: 4 year old with Ingrown ToenailsYour son should see a podiatrist before his toes become infected, ingrown nails. The fact that the nail splits does predispose the nail from growing inward. If the nail continues to become ingrown, the podiatrist can kill the nail matrix on the side to prevent the problem in the future. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
