Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Jul 30, 2002 12:53 pm

I would like to now what are the risks or if any? I am 1 month and a week pregnant and my big toe is infected.(puffy,red,ext.) Am I able to get this removed while being pregnant? Can I have a numbness shot taken to remove this ingrown nail? Will this hurt the baby? Please get back to be. Concern Mother to Be.

The good news is this will not affect your baby. The doctor wil use a little numbing medicine in the toe area but it will not be enough to cause any problems. This is a fairly common occurrence for pregnant women so try not to be too concerned. The only bad news is that with lawsuits and everything in today's society, the podiatrist probably will not do this minor procedure until he has a note from your OBGYN giving him or her permission. Therefore, you will have to make a few phone calls in order to be treated. However, I do urge you to get this taken care of quickly before it gets worse. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any furthe questions.
