Sp;it skin under toes

My 20 month old grson has deep painful spl on under part of his toes along cracks at joints. Two or three toes on each foot have including big toe. We asked doctor he said it nothing would go away. It hasn't it hurts him. We keep him bfoot as much as possible in hopes y would heal up not get too moist possibly infected. I am wondering if is right thing to do. Can help? Thank . Phyllis Frank

If you are talking about splits in his skin, this is not normal. He should see a podiatrist for an accurate diagnosis. It may just be dry skin that needs lotion. It may be a fungus like athlete's foot. However, you should try to keep socks on him so dirt won't get into the open cracks and cause an infection. I would get a second opinion if I were you.
