trying to determine my nail problemA couple of weeks ago at bottom of my nail, skin started to turn red. It moved slightly up right side became tender to touch. I put neosporin on it a few days. It helped tenderness redness in my skin stayed a few more days until it dryed peeled away. A fews days later my nail started to grow extensive white spots along bottom. I didn't drop anything on my toe or damage it in anyway. Since than left side of my nail has started to get red inflamed. I've started again neosporin. Can be some kind of infection? I don't see how could be ingrown if it originally started around nail bed, bottom of my nail. I can also see where nailbed underneath is slightly redder than top part of my nail. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, JayW
Re: trying to determine my nail problemA nail does not have to grow into the skin to become infected. If you have a localized infection, neosporin will not really help. The nail problem you are suffering with could be many different things. However, since there is redness, an infection is a definite possibility. Therefore, you should see a podiatrist in the near future. Pain, redness, swelling and increasd skin temperature are all signs of an infection. Please see a podiatrist so you can be properly diagnosed. Good luck and if you have any further questions, please write back.
