Morton’s Neuroma Post-Surgery Alcohol Sclerosing

Post a new topicby livingwith on Tue Jan 06, 2009 4:49 pm

I had dorsal surgery to remove a .5mm Morton’s neuroma in late February 2008. I recovered from the surgery and had approximately 1 month in which I could walk without pain. Then the pain started to return, although not as bad as before the surgery.
The pain seems to have reached a constant level (not getting worse), and I’ve even had a week, here and there, where it’s much improved. However, it always returns. I’ve had PT and taken the generic form of Lyrica, but neither...Read the full article

I don't have experience with post op alcohol but i do have experience with having gotten two shots in the last 3 weeks.

I got maxed out on the cortisone shots and can't have anymore for now. So the option for me was either surgery or alcohol injections.

I opted for the alcohol injections after researching it and the surgery and asking questions as well as considering which I could handle life wise. I had heard horrors about the pain after the first one and that the subsequent ones go easier. I've actually had a very wonderful experience with these shots. I've had an itching feeling and a bit of a throb like discomfort. So far, I feel "better"!

Something else that may help is a particular shoe. It's taken me a while to find a pair of shoes that actually feel good. The ones I found are walking shoes by New Balance. It's the 926 walking shoe. The leverage is different on them so you don't put pressure or walk on the ball of your foot.

Hope this helps!

I had a bunion removed in 2006 which was fine then the year after my toes straightend. I recovered from both ops very quickly but then early 2008 I developed a clicking sensation under my foot. At first it was just a sensation but it gradually turned to a stabbing pain and a burning feeling in my third toe.I eventually went back to my GP worried that something had gone wrong with my previous op. After looking on his computer he said I had mortons neuroma and my options were another opperation. I have only just got walking properly so feel reluctant to have another op and would appreciate some feedback from someone that has had it done.
At the moment I am getting some relief from wearing gel pads ( they really are like magic ) I buy them on the internet from Dr Foot and they come in a matter of days and when I am at home I just were flip flops (beach shoes) they seem to space the toes out. I am not even bothered about wearing nice shoes I would just like normal feet.
