I have been dealing with this very painful spot in the ball of my foot for over 2 years now. I was told that is is a neuroma and that I need to change the type of shoes I wear. I did that and to no avail the pain was still there. Went back to the doctor and tried cortisone injections. They seemed to help, but then I had to quit getting them when I found out I was pregnant.
After my son was born the I went back and started doing injections again. At first they seemed to get me through 2 maybe 3 ...Read the full article

I had very bad pain in both feet. It was caused by standing on a cement floor 9-10hours a day. It was so bad I thought I might even need to quit my job, but with a family that is hard to do. The pain persisted for about 2 years with a little help from orthitics and even cortisone injection but it always came back. One day a friend of mine who had severe back pain told me about something that had helped him. It helped me take my pain scale from about a 9 or 10 down to about a 1 or 2. It has been amazing. I never would have believed it, if it hadn't happened to me. And the only reason I tried it was because I was so desperate for the pain to go away. So here it is, I tell the story only to help someone else. I drink a small amount of unprocessed cocoa bean powder twice a day. The cocoa has an anti-inflamatory effect on the area that causes so much pain. It took about 20- 30 days of drinking the cocoa to begin feeling better but let me tell you it was like someone gave my life back. There is a company out there that makes the drink, I don't know if I'm allowed to post it here, and I don't stand to gain anything by telling you about it, just look for it or write back.

HI to all,

this is my first post to this site for mortons neuroma. I fractured metatarsal 2 & 3 in June by just walking. Found out I went from osteopenia to osteoporosis. Anyways, I ended up in a boot from the end of June to the middle of Sept. All along I kept telling the doctor my right foot felt like I had twigs between my toes and as time went on the left foot began developing the same symtoms.

Here we are in the middle to November and my feet are getting worse with the tingling, burning, feels like twigs between the toes. Now here is the kicker (pardon my pun). I hate needles and have refused to take cortisone shots on my last 2 visits. I go back on 12/01/08 and have to decide what to do. I have so much anxiety thinking of a needle in my foot. Tell me your injection experience.

I have had neurosurgery, knee surgery, knee drained numerous times, breast cancer surgery, other cancer biposies and so much more so I have dealt with needles and discomfort but the foot is so tender. My doctor is at wits end with me as for him to help I need to give in, suck it up and put up with about 15 seconds of discomfort to get some relief I hope. I guess I need encouragement. I am also scared this is going to lead to surgery. I already need a bunionectomy on the right foot and the chevron procedure. I am thinking of doing that next spring.

Panicking about winter as all I wear are wide sneakers with my orthotics in them and a metatarsal pad for the right foot. Nothing else is comfortable....HELP!

In my opinion the shots really don't help and who knows what further damage they do. I saw the latest foot doctor last week and he told me that surgery on a neuroma is about 50% successful and inially quite painfully! So I would like to find other options! Like you I'm not really looking for to winter. Today I wore my fit flops with toe socks to the store! They are the only comfortable shoe other than my built up tennis shoes with orthotics. Any ideas???

I never got a response when I asked before! Did you read the post that mentioned it? I will go back and see if I can find it and inquire again! You would think that there should be a solution other than surgery! I did order a pair of Black New Balance shoes 926. I heard they are good for neuromas.

hi marenjean,
I read the post but the name brand was not mentioned but he did mention to ask if you wanted the name so I did. I think he metioned unprocessed cocoa. WIll need to research this online.

I am wearing black new balance 811...just checked the number. I also have another style new balance that I like to wear but they are white and stick out like a sore thumb when wearing dress clothes like I am today (black business suit). Currently at my second job at a college and its open house.

Although not stylish, I don't feel like everyone is looking at my feet. Let me know how those new balance shoes work out...I may try that as well. I also wear custom orthotics with the right foot fitted with a metatarsal pad. I am so glad I found this forum. I feel I can comment (complain) and you all understand plus I do think I am getting some good tips and an understanding of this new medical event in my life. There just seems to be no end. I have had so many medical issues in the past 4 years, it really is ridiculous. I don't feel I am old enough for all this (55). And people who are healthy just don't get it.

Anyways, look forward to more chats with you and all.

I found several sites when I goggled "unprocessed cocoa bean powder" but thought maybe I would do a little more checking before ordering thru the mail. The new balance that I have worn for the past several years is 882 white and cranberry...there is a new color coming out around MARCH BUT IT'S EVEN WORSE LOOKING ACCORDING TO THE SALESMAN SO...
Hopefully these black ones will do the trick!
Around the house I can't go barefooted but I have discovered Fit Flops ...they give my feet enough cushioning and I can get out of those tennis shoes for awhile.
I also talked to someone at Theta Orthotics about their product...another site I came across looking for answers.I'm curious if anyone has used them? Found them while surfing as well. Hopefully there will be an answer out there for both of us! Love this website and so nice too commiserate!!!
