Morton’s neuroma/surgery

Post a new topicby livingwith on Thu Jan 10, 2008 8:41 am

I suffered for three years with Morton’s Neuroma. My job required that I be on my feet eight hours a day and is was torture. An orthopedist tried cortisone injections and orthotics but no relief whatever. I changed to another orthopedist and he x-rayed my foot to determine location of neuroma I had the surgery and have been pain free with no complications. I only wish I had had the surgery sooner and saved myself years of tortuous pain.

Can I ask how long your surgery recovery was? I had surgery about 3 weeks ago. I definitely have the numbness which I think is a good sign, but I still have some pain in the ball of my foot, especially when I am on my feet for long. Was all your pain gone at this point?

Thanks, Marcy

Could any one tell me how long I will be off of work? Specialist told me that i wouldnt be able to do housework or anything, this seams very drastic, worse than when i had cancer and hysterctomy. I'm dus op in March 2008. [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed]

Maggie, I know how worried you are especially if you have to miss work. I don't work but I thought I'd tell you how I did. I used crutches and kept my foot elevated for about eight days. After that I would alternate with the crutches and my surgery shoe. I'm 28 days post op today and haven't used the crutches at all in over 2 weeks. Of course it still hurts at times and still take pain medicine at times but overall its doing very well. Much better in fact than my dr. had led me to believe. He had told me that I wouldn't be able to walk for six weeks! When I went to have my stitches removed I had already been walking for about three days. Then he said that everybodys different.

I have an orthopaedic doctor. Where I live there aren't many podiatrists, at least not in my network. The same dr. did my bunion surgery in Sept. 07 also. What kind of dr. do you have?

Hi there,
I am wondering if you had your bunion surgery before of after you discovered you had a morton's neuroma? I had bunion surgery and developed a morton's neuroma immediately after the bunion surgery. I am not sure if it is a result of the bunion surgery>

Hi Bonnie! I made a mistake with the date of my bunion surgery. It was Sept 06. So yes I had it before the neuroma. I wondered the same thing about mine. I went back to the dr. in Nov. 07 because of problems where the screw was left in and I asked him about the pain from the neuroma. I'd never even heard of Morton's Neuroma! It seemed like he knew before I got through telling him what it was. I hadn't ever had any such pain before the bunion surgery. But, I have read that they are sometimes associated with bunions. When did you have bunion surgery? Are they gonna remove your neuroma?
