Surgery IS possible for Morton’s Neuroma?

Post a new topicby livingwith on Mon Jan 19, 2009 12:26 pm

I have been so surprised to read stories from people who suffer from Morton’s Neuroma and have had surgery. I have suffered with M.N. for approx 6 years and have been told that they cannot operate. I have visited many specialists and they only offer orthotics pain medications, and cortisone injects.
I am so glad to have found this web-page with proof from other sufferer’s who have had relief after surgery. I understand that there are possibilities of complications but after suf...Read the full article

I have been living with MN for more than 8 years now. I was not aware of surgery for MN until last year and have been since then, trying to read about it before getting sliced. My concerns are about recurrence as well as getting a good podiatrist to do the surgery. Or should I try to go with an orthopedic surgeon instead?

I had my MN removed 10 days ago. I am still in a walking shoe and start physical therapy next week. I am very active and the pain and swelling was getting to me. I have woren orthotics for years. They weren't helping me any more. My podiatrist said he would give me a cortisone shot and it might give me some relief but the pain would come back. He said it was better to just remove it, Actually there turn out to be 2 MNs. The surgery went well I think. Good Luck

I am considering surgery, since i have been given all other solutions, alcohol shots and changes my shoes to low heeled wider ones, it helped, but the pain is getting worse and the alcohol shots are not doing much lately, so i think im going to do the surgery, i am a doctor, and im up on my feet almost all the time, i also can't take a long break so if the healing process will take long, and if the surgery did not go well ill be devistated, so if anyone did this surgery and it did go well, can you please tell us who the doctor was, and where u did the surgery. I have been told that the best surgons are in Germany, i am willing to travel to get it done, i dont want to risk the chnce of getting it done wrong.

please recommend someone! :) thank you

I can certainly relate to the pain you describe. I have gone for about a decade with very severe pain where I could only writhe in pain each night getting almost no sleep while wearing out vibrators. I have recently been taking alcohol treatments for Morton’s neuroma and my pain level dropped from about a 9 to a 5 or 6 (at least for the most part). The pain can still get pretty bad even with the drop in intensity. I have taken 11 treatments so far and am still considering surgery. I still take Lyrica and percocet which I have been doing for almost a year.
