10 days after surgery in both feetQuick update. I had surgery on Sept 10th for neuromas in both feet. Went in from the top on both feet and both neuromas were about the thickness of a pinky finger. Nornal nerves should be about the diameter of a pencil lead. Anyway I was off of them for 4 days, then wore goofy blue shoes for another 3, and then regular(comfortable) shoes for the last 3 days. I still have pain where the neuromas were, but it is a different pain, not the electrifying shock I used to feel when i walked. The pain is now much more constant, and feels like a mass underneath my third toes. This is expected and I believe the swelling will go down and the pain should completely subside in a few weeks.
Overall pretty happy with initial results and I actually got out on the tennis cour with my daughter yesterday. Not running around mind you, but still active enough to wing the racquet and step/jog softly. CI
Re: 10 days after surgery in both feetCI, so will you be able to to resume your activities after recovery? I am a runner, well...WAS a runner prior to my MN, saw an orthapedic yesterday who ordered an MRI. He wanted to see the MN before doing surgery. I thought MN was rare but youhad it in both feet? What are the odds? Lucky you, huh? Glad you are doing well...hope mine allows me to resume running. I feel pretty discouraged about it right now, but hopefully...things will improve. Good luck to you.
Re: 10 days after surgery in both feetHello
I intend to be fully recovered in a month or so, but that may be optomistic. I did have it in both feet, but that may be due to years of playing tennis on hardcourts. Ironically my sister had it as well in one foot and had successful surgery about 4 years ago. I also tried Cryotherapy (freezing the nerve in one foot) but with limited and only temporary success. Others have had better luck at that route than me. Although, Freezing doctor said it routinely takes several freezing procedures to experience significant relief. I just got tired of the pain and opted for surgery. Aleve helped me tollerate it on a daily basis and comfortable shoes were a must. Good Luck CI
Re: 10 days after surgery in both feetI didn't really try to much of that stuff. I thought those would only be temporary and not actually get rid of the problem permanently. I'm no doctor, but it is just a nerve and I'm not concerned about having no feeling in my two toes, I just don't want a restrictionin my activities.
Re: 10 days after surgery in both feetI hear ya! Me neither...kill the dang nerve and lets get on with living! Ha! Sounds kind of like a root canal on the foot! Well, my thoughts about using devices are that if the problem is caused by pronating then correcting that could prevent or relieve the inflamation that causes the pain. I have read over and over again on these posts where the problem recurred-which is highly discouraging.
Re: 10 days after surgery in both feetGlad to hear you are getting around so soon. I've had MN on both feet for 15 years and just lived with the pain. Tried it all up to this point. I'm considering surgery in January. Trying to get feed back and it is 50/50 on the pro's and con's. Just can't live with the pain any longer.
Re: another wayplease try "prolotherapy"..............supposedly stretched ligaments are what allowed the metarsals to pinch the nerve in the first place. I have had 6 prolotherapy treatments and have definitely improved with each one. I believe fixing what was lost in "nature" is the only true permanent cure. Prolotherapy claims about an 85% permanent cure rate. That's the way I'm going, 50/50 surgery results are scary people, and repeat surgeries for stumps !!!!
I want to find more people on this site that went my route. A bad case like mine (I kicked a brick wall) will be harder to cure and at least I hope people can find help from my expense and pain. Nature and true cures work slowly, we are a country of immediate gratification, beware. By the way, the more people that get help through prolotherapy, the more this condition will get research and refined technique and help many in the future.
Re: 10 days after surgery in both feetI looked at a prolotherapy site, and all i saw was a lot of needle insertions as I recall. Kind of weird I thought. Surgery is not a 50/50 success rate by my research, experience and speaking with others who have had it. I'd say probably 80% succes. I'm one of them.
Re: 10 days after surgery in both feetHow long has it been successful for you? I sincerely ask also why some peole get stump meuromas afterward.
My problem was sever and now lessened alot with no surgery, I respect what you say and yet want others to be aware of the natural healing choice whch takes lnger but keeps you whole and complete.
