Advice please somebodyhad my left foot done about 5 years ago, unfortunatley the neuroma has
Grown back.Had my right neuroma removed 4 weeks ago, this time I've had a lot more discomfort, walking around is very uncomfortable. How long does this last and how long wi I be off work?
Re: Advice please somebodyHi. I haven't had anything done yet for my neuroma, but I was hoping this site would be more active. I'm quite disappointed to see a question like this that no one has bothered to answer. So much for support groups. But I'm curious. That seems like information your doctor should have given you, or certainly questions he/she should be able to answer for you. I hate to think your dealing with a doctor who does the surgery, but won't answer a patient's questions and doesn't do follow-up. Again, I'm still surprised you haven't received response here. This Morton's Neuroma seems to be a pretty common condition. Now I'm hoping I can find another forum that's more active. Good luck.
Re: Advice please somebodyAs far as Im aware when you need resurgery the surgeon will operate from the bottom of the foot.Although a simple proceedure compared to the top of foot entry it will take much longer before you will be back on your feet. Obviously you need to discuss this with your Doctors.
Re: Advice please somebodyI think the question about 'how long' is incredibly hard to answer. Some people seem to be skipping around within a month and the unlucky few are still hobbling around years later. From what I can gather, anything from one to twelve months is 'normal'. I found it hard to get specific info from the surgeon, which is probably partly because there aren't easy answers for me. He recommended a very experienced podiatrist who has been great (if painful!) with giving me exercises and manipulation, and also seems to have a good handle on when things are outside the 'normal' range and may need further investigation. I sympathise with the pain on walking issue: I found it really hard to know whether the pain I was experiencing was necessary to my recovery, or making things worse, or a sign things weren't healing as they should. Can you go back and see the surgeon who did the operation?
Re: Post op appointmentHad my post op appointment and my specalist has advised
that if my foot pain hasn't settled in the next 2 weeks he Will inject to hopefully settle the nerve around were the Neuroma was removed. If I have this injection I am sure things will be much more comfortable.Even though I've had this slight blip, I'm glad I've had the neuroma removed.
Re: Advice please somebodyThat sounds hopeful and reassuring. The podiatrist told me that after MN surgery the nerves in the foot can go a bit wild and need to be retrained to behaving normally, which is partly what the exercises I have are about. Put another way, I guess that means that post-operative pain isn't necessarily a sign of anything gone badly wrong (other than the nerves being upset).
Re: Advice please somebodyHi Designeer, thanks for the advice I actually had an appointment this week at the Orthotic clinic. since having my op in April things haven't been too good, so instead of having both feet injected again, I was told that basically my feet are "a bag of bones" and have no structure!!! The plan of action therefore is, I've had moulds taken of my feet and the good old NHS are making me made to measure inserts for my shoes/boots. These will re-align the bone structure in my feet, therefore everything else should fall in line (unfortunately i'm flatfooted and my feet roll in making me bow- legged - makes me sound gorgeous doesn't it!!) and something to lift my toes where my neuroma is (the left one has grown back) and was. Keep your fingers or toes crossed for me.
Re: Advice please somebodyI wish I knew how to post a pic of the lig structures near the toes. Ligaments can be strengthened/increased in diameter to 40% claim prolotherapists, that is incredible staying power for any foot. I roll out towards the outside on the foot that is injured too, but it took 47 years to be a problem, if I thicken my ligaments and shorten them to become tighter, I will NOT need orthotics or care about tight shoes, I will be 21 again and reborn, get it?
Re: Advice please somebodyi've just had a look on a website about 'Prolotherapy' and it sounds perfect, have to be honest, i'd never heard of it before. I'll look into it further and defo let you know how i'm getting on. Just keep thinking these size 4 1/2's have to keep me going for at least another 40 years.
