Blue around surgery area?Hi all, I was a lurker here before my surgery which was Feb 08. I didn't lurk much after that because I wanted to remain as positive as possible and unfortunately there are some scary stories in the forum, ha ha! I ended up with my own problems and lost all my positivity. My wound wouldn't heal, the dr. ended up having to take a chunk of flesh, etc from the area (boy that was not a walk in the park) to try to stimulate it to heal. I ended up being on crutches for about 5-6 weeks and in the boot until July (5 months). You can imagine how disheartened I became. But finally the day came when the wound closed up and I was able to wear my birkenstocks. A few months ago my foot started hurting a bit but not enough to complain too much about, I figured it took so long to heal it was just the aftermath. It has now (for the past month or so) taken on a blue tinge all around where the wound was, it's in a big circle.
Has anyone else had this happen? I KNOW I should call the dr but really wanted to see if I could find any info on it first. I am totally dreading going back, so afraid they're going to have to open it up or something. I've tried doing searches on the web but don't come back with too much info. I'm assuming it has to do with circulation. If you have had this happen, please post and let me know, I'm starting to get worried because the sites I HAVE found concerning blue feet have not been to promising. Thanks so much... Andrea
Re: Blue around surgery area?Andrea,
Sorry to hear about your problem. Is it cold or warm to the touch? Yesterday(1-29) i just had neuroma surgery on my left foot after every other treatment didn't work. This same poor foot has gone thru 3 previous surgeries in the last 3 yrs, stemming from bunion to shattered first metatoral to plate and pin removal. I used to get a reddish-blue color in the scare tissue area and constant messaging seemed to help circulation in the foot. I would see the Dr. if I were you, its discourging i know but better be safe than sorry.
Re: Blue around surgery area? Thanks for your reply Glenn, I hope your foot is feeling well today. I haven't really tried massaging it but will start that and see if it happens. I can't really say that it's hot or cold that much different from my other foot. I did call the dr and am going in on Tuesday to be sure. It's sore in the area with the blue tinge and the foot has that tingling feeling quite often. Hmmmmm
Re: Blue around surgery area?I saw the doc a couple months ago, he said it's "nothing to worry about" but that I have pretty poor circulation in my feet. He said not to walk long distances in the winter and stuff like that. Who knows. It doesn't really hurt or anything so not sure what to think.
