HELP I need reasurrance that I am doing the right thingI have had bunions all my life and they have never caused me any problems until the last five years or so. I am now 42 and am very limited with my shoes (which is a crisis for a women). All my shoes that have fit in the past and have been streched to accomade the "bump" cause me so much pain that I can not walk at the end of the day. This is a huge probem because I an a teacher so I am on my feet all the time. Even normal shoes cause me pain. I also have hammer toes, two of which have been correct in my teens.
I have seen several doctors over the past five years and just found one that i can trust and has greast creditionals..I also know two people that have had the surgery with him and have had woderful results. My problem that I am experiencng is that I am so terriffed of the surgery on my foot (feet)..... My fears: wil my foot l be worse after the surgery? I am also apprehension of being totay disabled for six weeks. Can I eventionally wear heals after I heal? The type of surgery I am having in more extension then most because my foot is so deformed. I believe that it involves going through the top my foot and realigning my toes and foot and putiing pins/screws/plates in my foot to make it correct. After surgery I have to have abosulty NO weight on my right foot for six weeks (including driving). My kids are in their teens and live with their father 50% of the time and I am out of school for sumner on June 18 (I am a teaher). Perfect timing right? I am also finishing my masters degrees and am doubling up this summer to finish early. My courses are on line so being bed bound i wont have any probeln working 24/7 (is this correct?). My left foot is schedued for November. I would really like to here from people who has been through this (especially no weight bearing for six week). Are there any tips I can to to make this go smoother? Deal with the pain and discomfort? And also not putting any weight on my foot for six weeks? I am very scared and aprehesive about thiss whole thing and am thinking that the pain is better than the treatment. I really need to hear from other about their eperinces and how they feel now. Thank you so much an have a great night! :)
