How to find the best surgeon?Ok, I don't like it, but I read enough to know that the surgery is inevitable, so how do you find someone really good to do this. I'm not keen on someone messing with my nerves and if I have to do that I want the best...suggestions?
Re: How to find the best surgeon?Hi - I am in the same boat as you with nerve related issues, possibly MN and trying to get a second opinion. The advice that I've been given is to find out who the professional sport teams in your area use by calling their head office. I haven't gone this route yet as I have a friend whose brother is involved in pro hockey and he has asked him if he could find someone to help me. But anyways, that may be worth a try. Also, there is a website out there ( I don't think we can name them on the forum) where the public can rate their doctors. It has listings for the U.S., Canada as well as other countries. You get the low-down on patients' experiences and what they really think of them. So if you search rate doctors, I'm sure you will find it. Other than that you could always ask at a major hospital that is closest to you. Hope this helps.
Re: How to find the best surgeon?I had the surgery on Feb7th of 07. I was in a blue boot and could not walk on the foot for the first 2 weeks. I did however cheat and go out to lunches and dinners with the boot on. The stitches cme out on day 21 and I was told to now put a shoe on and walk. It is now the 7th week of post op, I am going to the gym shooting basket playing half court. I will go to work on Tuesday ( april 1st) and resume running and all other sports activities. The foot is still not 100%,however I hav no neuroma pain. I had an excellent Dr at UCSD in San Diego. His name is Daniel Lee of the ortho dept. I hope this helps.
Re: How to find the best surgeon?Which surgery did you have? The traditional one where the incision is on the bottom of the foot?
Re: How to find the best surgeon?I had the dorsal surgery, It was a rather large neuroma with bursitis on the right foot.
Re: How to find the best surgeon? Also my surgery was in 08 of this year not 07 sorry.
Re: How to find the best surgeon?Forgive my ignorance but is the Dorsal surgery done from the top or the bottom? This is a pretty new subject for me.
Re: How to find the best surgeon?Dorsal is going through the top ( the best way to go) nothing worse than walking on scar tissue fron incision. It took about 30 mins with light sedation . It is not painful as you might expect. There is a very little scar left after operation. The best instructions is to follow your doctors orders. Thanks Jon
Re: How to find the best surgeon?Hi there, I've avoided surgery for the past couple of years but am getting to the point where I need to do SOMETHING. I experience substantial neuroma pain and numbness on my right foot, dating back twenty years. I was wondering if you are still happy with Daniel Lee.
Thanks, and I'm hoping all is well. Tina
