MN surgery 4 weeks post-opI had surgery 4 weeks ago, everythings good so far. Walked out of the hospital with a surgical "shoe" that has velcro opening on top. The first 48 hours I elevated my foot constantly. I also started massage daily and tried to stretch my foot as tolerated. I work in an office, so I stayed home from work for 3 days. I went back 1/2-days, took the afternoons off and elevated my foot. Then I went back to full-time after 10 days. I was still in the surgical boot until this week, 4 weeks post-op. I can wear some shoes, not all as theres still some swelling and tenderness. I'm walking pretty good but with a limp.
The best thing is.. every week my foot gets better and better and I can't wait until I can run again. I read alot of horror stories on the web and was afraid of the surgery but I feel it will be a success. My POD said it can take up to a year before you can forget you ever had MN. I took my time finding the right surgeon and traveled over 100 miles away for the surgery. So far all is well !!
Re: MN surgery 4 weeks post-opGood to hear a positive story. I think it's too easy to forget that the majority of MN surgery is successful. I'd guess it's mostly people who've had not such a good time that write to these forums. Mine didn't turn out as easy as I hoped, but my cousin was fine within a few weeks (except for she can't wear her tight high heels for too long now!). And I met a woman recently who had both feet done together and was back to hiking pretty quick and hasn't had problems since.
Re: MN surgery 4 weeks post-opHave been off work 4 weeks so far after MN. Still in pain. Walk very little and driving impossible. Hope to go back part-time to office in a week. Employer very unsympathetic. I have not been given any exercises and what massage do you do?

Re: MN surgery 4 weeks post-opSorry to hear you are having such a rough time of it. Sounds like you might need to go back and see the surgeon who did it? My surgeon didn't give me any exercises, but I went to see a podiatrist and also physiotherapist to get some advice on that. I made sure they were experienced in dealing with MN. I also have massage as one of my issues has been excessive scar tissue/adhesions. It does all cost, unfortunately.
Re: MN surgery 4 weeks post-opHave now been to see private podiatrist, who diagnosed MN Sept 08 within a few minutes. Was very helpful. Gave me exercises, suggested hot and cold get packs [doing this now, whilst emailing]. Keep massaging. All seems to help. Seems recovery is much quicker if surgery carried out by podiatrist, as opposed to mine which was orthopaedic surgeon. Pain still to be expected. Will give me a letter to let my employer have, to explain I MUST keep foot elevated.
