morton' s neuroma

Post a new topicby whiteface1 on Fri Jun 13, 2008 5:05 pm

I had surgery 1 week ago JUne 6th. Had dressing changed at 5 days. Dr. says things look good! But the foot does not feel great. He said I could start walking using the surgical boot and crutches. Well to me I cannot put my foot down flat as it feels as if the stictches are pulled so tight across from the second toe to the 3 & 4 toes that it feels like my skin is going to stretch apart and I cannot put my foot down flat.
My toes and left side of foot is black and blue and the bottom of my foot(ball) is black and blue and swollen as well. I put my foot up for the first 4 days with ice and have returned to work( I do computer work).I am still using crutches as putting full weight is still painfull. Stitches come out June 25th. I hope things start going the other way as I cannot even put the clutch in on my MINI Cooper so I have to be driven all over.
Anyone have some positive simular account of their surgery so I know what I am experiencing is normal?

Hi,

I just got MN surgery two days ago (Friday, June 13th). I am sore and on heavy meds. My back and neck muscles ache already from trying to get comfy with having my foot propped up. I'm one that has a hard time sitting still and all I can hope for is that the surgery is a success and that all pain will be gone eventually and permanently and that I can soon be on my feet and back to the things I enjoy. I was ready yours and other posts and noticed that many have been using crutches. I wonder if my doctor was suppose to tell me to use them????? I have my foot wrapped and am wearing a surgical shoe when I have to get up, and even with that I'm told to walk on my heel (not like I'd feel comfy walking on the rest of the swollen and hurting foot). Anyway, I hope you are feeling better since your surgery was over a week ago. Any other changes you can share?

Thanks

Ocean

I was told to use crutches and could put weight on my heel as soon as the "block" wore off.
I did not take any pain meds except a couple of extra strenght Tylenol that night of the surgery and the block wore off. I cannot take narcodic drugs.
Mostly, for 4 days I was home with my foot elevated with ice continuiously! I think you need to really take it easy for the first week and elevated and ice as much as possible to help with the swelling.
I had the dressing changed on the 11th. My toes have turned black and blue, the left side of my foot and on the bottom too. Dr. said after that visit I could walk with the surgical boot and would not need the crutches. I cannot walk well in that boot as I cannot put much weight on the foot only on the heel part and that is very awkward and is not comfortable for long periods of time. I still use at least 1 crutch for support.By the end of the day the foot still swells and when I go home from work I put ice on it and elevate. MY heck and shoulders and back are sore from using the stupid crutches!
My foot is feeling better, I cannot drive as of yet as I have a MINI Cooper car that is a standard tranmission and I cannot put in the clutch, it is still too painfull and the "boot" is too big and bulky.
I get stitches out on June 25th.
So it has been 12 days since surgery and things are slowly getting better. I too hope that this surgery is successful for the MN and I can ski and walk pain free once I recover totally from the effects of the surgery. I have a sports fitness business so I need to be able to get back for walking very soon.
Let me know how you make out too. I too get itch pants sitting around but I understand one must not rush the recovery process on this type of surgery.

Hi Ocean-

I had my MN surgery three days ago. Your pod sounds a lot like mine. My surgeon did not tell me to use crutches. In fact, after I was back in his office the day after surgery complaining about how much pain I was experiencing, he let me know that "MOST people" are walking fine the day after surgery! Ha! I'd like to meet them! Anyway... I wondered how you are doing now? I am using crutches to get around and don't see the chance I'll be able to walk for at least another few days...

Thanks,
Stephanie in Arizona

Well, I am now four days post-op for MN and I am now able to walk/hobble without my crutches. I am still of course on pain killers prescribed by the doctor. I just thought I would update from my previous post that I am starting to recover. Thanks!
