My Morton's NeuromaI have just been told by my doctor that I have Morton's Neuroma in both feet and need surgery - I now await a 3 month waiting list to see a surgeon!!
Does anyone else have this with both feet, and if so - can you share what happened to you as I am in a bit of a daze at the moment. thanks Michelle
Re: My Morton's NeuromaI had pain in both feet after pregnacies with my two sons who are now 16 and 14.. Strangely the right foot pain disappeared. The left foot was painful to walk on for about 8 years. I went to a podiatrist.. bought orthotics.. they did not work. I went to see a foot surgeon. He told me that the surgery could not be done and he turned me away. I went to a physical therapist and had work done. Long story... Finally in desperation I contacted yet another surgeon. He told me what I had.. did the surgery and I was fine and dandy and happy! For 8 years.. Now the neuroma is back in my left foot. Made an appt. with my surgeon today to have him reevaluate my condition. He cannot see me for another month!
It took me a week of pain and concern to realize what was going on with my foot. I did not realize until yesterday that what was likely happening was the return of the neuroma. The surgery isnt bad.. It may not last forever but I tell you.. I had almost forgotten about all the years of foot pain I had endured. I was able to drive my standard car without pain.. I went running, skiing, biking, hiking.. all without pain until last week!
Re: My Morton's NeuromaHi Michelle, I have had pain in my right foot for the last three years and saw a surgeon last year. I tried the cortisone shot which didn't work. I put up with it for another year until last week after shopping for 3 hours, the pain was so bad I couldn't wear a shoe for two days. I guess I'm very fortunate. I called for an appointment last Thursday, saw the surgeon yesterday and am having the surgery on Tuesday. I'm sorry you have to wait so long for an appointment. I, too, am wondering just what the surgery will entail. I agonized over having it done, but it has reached the point where it is now interfering with living my life. If you want, I'll let you know how it does next Tuesday.

Re: My Morton's NeuromaI just had my surgery for both feet August 12 2009 and if it is at all possible I would get only one foot at a time done. Also depending on the severity of the neuroma there are much safer treatments to go thru rather than surgery.ie, injections, shoe inserts, etc.
Re: My Morton's Neuromawhy do u need to wait 3 months?? has your dr tried conservative approaches. including custom orthotics, cortisone injections, sclerosing injections, taping. have u had a mri or ultrasound to confirm ur dx?? make sure u try these prior to sx. one of the risk of neuroma sx is then getting a stump neuroma after sx. make sure you check all your options prior to sx
