Need ways at home to ease the pain

Post a new topicby ashlynn6 on Sat Sep 20, 2008 1:40 pm

I was just dx w/ MN 2 weeks ago. I am only 26 and hate to think after reading some of these posts that I may have to live with this irritation for the rest of my life. I really hope it doesn't come down to surgery, but from what I've read even after surgery it can come back? I have had a MRI, Bone scan, and 2 sets of X-rays. None of which said anything was wrong. My foot pain screamed otherwise. I had a cortisone shot 2 weeks ago which hurt like crazy, and it didn't do anything but make it worse for the next 4 days. After that I think it kicked in and my pain is at a 0-1. More just uncomfortable then anything. The doctor has me in a CAM-walker boot and crutches for the time being. But the last two days it has been swollen up like a balloon and sometimes purple. Could that just be that I'm not using it?
My question is has anyone found something to relieve the pain, or help with this discomfort at home? Such as is it better to ice it or put heat on it? Does Epsom's salts help at all? Is it better to keep it elevated or down? I've seen a little bit about people posting about massage, does that help?
Thanks!
