Neuroma and OrthoticsI have had orthotics to correct a neuroma for the past several years. They have worked just fine. I have just had a new neuroma flare up over the past few months and my doc refurbished the orthotic, but did not provide an extension. I was told if the pad was directly under the metatarsal bones, I wouldn't be able to walk, but others have told me that I should have an extension that extends under the metatarsal bones. I am wondering if anyone else has orthotics for this condition where the orthotic or pad is under the metatarsils versus the front edge of the foot arch. I feel like my orthotics are not going to help my current inflamation. I also may need to give this more time.
I know without seeing it, it is hard to know if it is positioned right. To help describe better, my orthotic is from the DPM and not over the counter, and the current pad is located right behind my metatarsal area, more under the front edge of my arch.
Re: Neuroma and OrthoticsI think I have a similar type of orthotic - there's a small pad just before the MN.
This worked really well for me for about 3 weeks - then the pad flattened out and the pain came back. It's in the shop now getting redone. I was also wondering whether the positioning of the pad was correct but it seems to have worked short-term anyway. I'm not sure I believe their claim that with pressure off the MN it might just go away altogether. Steve
Re: Neuroma and OrthoticsMine is a hard orthodic. For some reason, mine never seemed to help. I purchased wider shoes and this seems to have eased my pain, so maybe in conjunction with the orthodic, it has now taken care of the pain. Thanks for your post.
