Had a round of golf yesterday (29th)my first pain free golf for over a year. This just 15 days after the op.To Say Im delighted with my speedy recovery dosnt cover it. A little swelling last night (ice, ice ice) and a little sore this morning but nothing to complain about.Having a days rest today and will be hitting the Greens again on Sunday! Yipee!

camperfan, The NHS IMO is a waste of taxpayers money. They insisted I had arthritis for two years, the idiots failed to correctly diagnose in two years what it took my surgeon 5 minuites

Hi again, have now visited podiatrist privately. Spent 30 mins with him receiving general advice, which was extremely helpful. Also have suspicions MN may be starting in right foot [it took 8 years to develop in left foot, so not too worried], so have received advice also on how to keep MN at bay in right foot. Podiatrist will write to my employer to explain I must keep foot elevated as much as poss.
It would seem that recovery is so much quicker is podiatrist undertakes surgery through top of foot, rather than orthepaedic surgeon who goes in thru the bottom.

I am very, very slowly improving. Ice helping, followed by warmth to help regenerate new soft tissue. [10 mins each]. See my GP tomorrow to see if can go back to work. Have asked work if can just do mornings only for first few days - nil response i.e., neither yes or no. Very helpful! If I push, I think they will arrange for a canteen table in my office, so I can sit with my foot up. It is just unbelievable - they moan coz I'm not there, but do nothing to assist my return. And the irony is that I am the HR Advisor!

Hope you are coming along okay.

Hello Anne - Sounds like you had a good visit there. I hadn't realised you had surgery from the bottom of the foot. My understanding is that this is an appreciably longer recovery time than from the top. I've had mine done by a podiatric surgeon, who I like and rate and has been doing these operations for years. The first time (both feet) in October 07 and the second, left only, in February this year. (This because it hadn't healed properly, was getting worse again and the only way to identify the problem as MRI and US didn't show enough was to re-operate. Turns out there was a lot of scar tissue and the nerve had regrown through a bursa. Surgeon said he'd never seen anything quite like it, so I don't think anyone needs to worry too much that it's going to happen to them!) Anyway, that's by the by - what I wanted to say was that between the two ops, the surgeon had spent a month in some fancy foot clinic in the US, as a result of which, he is now more inclined, he said, to operate from the bottom, whereas before he always went from the top. The swings and roundabouts issue, apparently, is that although going from the top means you can weight bear more quickly, it is also more complicated because they have to delve around other tissues, tendons etc so there is more scope for things to go wrong, or even miss a bit of neuroma. From the bottom, on the other hand, the neuroma is much more accessible but recovery slower because you have to keep off it for longer.

Your employers sound real s***s. Hope they can now start being a bit more decent.

I am due to have my second surgery next week. My last one was done through the top and this one will be done through the bottom. I developed a neuroma stump and it is so painful. I have been living on percoset basically since my first surgery in February but now it is not helping much, just takes the edge off. I had to wait until my daughter graduates from high school this week to have my surgery so I have been dealing with the pain the best I can. Wish me luck on the next one. I WANT TO TAKE A WALK AGAIN !

Back to work tomorrow. GP has signed my certificate to say part-time only initially, which I feel happy with. My rather large scab has also fallen off today, which seems to have eased things a little.

Are you playing golf again yet?

How lucky you are. Wearing heels already - unbelievable. I had surgery on 1 May on NHS. Have since seen private podiatrist for advice on aftercare. He advises I will still need to wear my 'crocs' for another 4 weeks and then running trainers for about 2 months. Normal shoes prob about 6 months after surgery.

Toe raises - an unbelievable dream. I am doing a very little gentle yoga.

Back to work tomorrow, part-time only at first.

I will also need to buy a very cheap automatic car.

How different our experiences are.

Thank you, I hope I recover quicker from this surgery. Looking forward to the little things in life that you take for granted with good feet.
