Successful MN Surgery!!!!!!Yes, there is such a thing as a successful surgery for Morton's Neuroma Two weeks ago, Thursday, I had a large neuroma removed between my 3rd & 4th metatarsals on my left foot. I followed the post-op instructions very carefully. Staying off of my foot for the first 3 days. I spent it in a recliner with my leg/foot elevated, ice on the ankle and behind the knee. On Monday, I had my first post-op appointment to get the dressings taken off. The foot looked really good, minimal swelling and lots of bruising. lol. He took off the dressings, put me in a compression sock and told me to lose the post-op shoe at any time. I was thrilled. I lost the shoe two days later. I kept it on Tuesday, because I was going to a ballgame and wanted the extra protection. I do a lot of walking for my job and I really had very little discomfort. On Wednesday I switched to my chaco's. Although, not very professionally looking they were very comfortable to walk in. On Thursday night, I went dancing with friends, and we danced for hours. Again, very little swelling, and no discomfort. Although, I did have some bleeding. On Monday, I went back to the dr. to have my stitches removed. He was very impressed with my progress and the foot looked GREAT! Still some bruising, but nothing major. This time, I got to lose the compression bandage and was told that I can do anything I wanted. YIPPEE!!!! I'm still not in heals, but I am wearing dressier low/flat sandals. I've decided to wait for atleast 6 weeks before I attempt them. I feel great and am so glad that I decided to have this done. I wanted to share my success, because I have read all of the horror stories on this site and many others regarding the surgery. My heart goes out to those who haven't had successful surgeries. Feel free to ask me any questions, in regards to the surgery, procedure or anything else. MN is an awful thing! I still have MN in my right foot, but it hasn't been causing me any problems. If it ever does, I know that I will get treatment for it right away rather than waiting. There is help out there. Don't lose the faith!
Re: Successful MN Surgery!!!!!!Congratulations on your successful operation. I am due to have my operation within the next few months. just waiting for date from hospital.
It's great hearing success stories, and experiences that people have. At least I know what to expect. All the hospital says that I will be in as a day case and i will be off work for two weeks. So i will just have to wait for the date and hope for the same outcome as you. glad to hear that you have done so well. Tracey
Re: Successful MN Surgery!!!!!!I wondering what the sensation feels like now after the surgery and you have healed. My doctor says there is numbmess between the third and forth toes. Is this feeling uncomfortable.
Thank you rjt
Re: Successful MN Surgery!!!!!!Hi Tracey,
Best of Luck with your MN Surgery. Make sure you follow the dr.'s instructions to a t! I can't believe that you would be off work for 2 weeks. You might want to check with your doctor to be sure. I went back to work the Monday following my surgery. Everyone is different but I would definitely double check with your Dr. Please keep me updated. I would love to hear how your surgery goes! Kel
Re: Successful MN Surgery!!!!!!Hi RJT!
I have numbness in my 4th toe and a weird feeling in the ball of my foot sometimes when I walk but it isn't painful. It's just a really weird feeling! It definitely isn't an uncomfortable feeling, just a strange sensation every once in awhile. It is 100 times better than the pain from the MN. Are you having the surgery? Keep me posted!
Re: Successful MN Surgery!!!!!!Hi, debbie, i hope i'm like you and can go back to work earlier.
How long did you have to wait for your appointment for your surgery? When i saw my consultant i thought they would of explained it more, re. what happens after ? how they will do the op ?. I only found out the ways they do the op on this forum. I will definately do what they say as i can't wait to be playing loads of golf again, as i can't walk for too long as the pain is too bad. i will definately keep you informed when i have the op, hopefully sooner than later. thanks for the message. look after yourself Tracey
Re: Successful MN Surgery!!!!!!Hello! I'm so glad your surgery is working out. I've been dealing with an MN for twenty years on my right foot which has gotten progressively worse to the point that I cannot walk and remain in any one shoe for an extended period of time, and which causes major numbness if I walk barefoot for a period of time. Where are you and do you still recommend your doctor? I'm in Southern California - if your doctor is here I would really appreciate a reference. I have a great podiatrist, but his partner, the surgeon, is not someone I trust. Thanks!

Re: Successful MN Surgery!!!!!!Tracey,
I'm not sure if this was for me or not. lol. I had my surgery the week after I decided to do it. I actually could have had it sooner, but I had other things scheduled and I felt that doing it on a Thursday was best, allowing me more time to do nothing. lol. Good luck with your surgery! Kelli
Re: Successful MN Surgery!!!!!!Hi Tina,
I'm in Houston. Sorry! I would highly recommend my doctor to anyone. He has a fantastic personality, is an excellent doctor and surgeon. My husband, who is an orthopaedic surgical assistant actually recommended him to me. They had worked some cases together before so I was lucky and got a great referral. I think it's important that you trust the dr. doing the surgery. I would try and find another surgeon, one that you feel comfortable with. You don't want to have any anxiety about the surgery prior to. Best of Luck!!!! I wish I could help you more!
Re: Successful MN Surgery!!!!!!Hiya Kel,
Well i've got my date to go in for my op, 21st May. So part of me is excited as i can't wait to not be in pain anymore, or less at least. Although i am apprehensive at the same time. Do you know if this affects people within certain ages, as i will be 46 on 15th May. The only good thing is that i will be celebrating my birthday before i go in. Unfortunately for my hubby is that his birthday is a day after i have my op !!!!!!! ( good timing eh????) lol Anyway i hope you are keeping well, and i will let you know how i get on . Tracey
