Ideal Feet vs Online Orthotics vs Podiatrist

Post a new topicby footwork13 on Mon Jun 23, 2008 6:38 pm

I have worn orthotics for 20 years and definitely feel better with them than without (a day by the pool in sandals, means a day or more of aching feet). All of the orthotics I have owned have come from a podiatrist and I am wondering if it's necessary to go through them any more. The same molding applications are available online, and for about half the cost. What makes the impression the doctor makes and mails away any better than one I can make myself (especially that the doctor wants to charge an additional $100 to replace the pads when they come unglued after just a couple of months of wear)?

Additionally, there are now some places such as Ideal Feet (www.idealfeet.com) with "stores" where you can get fitted with their brand of orthotics Are their products as good as they say (they are not cheap, so is it better than the podiatrist versions)? i.e. is there anyone on this site who has them and can corroborate their 96.3% customer satisfaction claim? Thanks.

It depends on your foot problems. The orthotic is only as good as the cast. There is so many different variables when it comes to making an orthotic. You don't just send them away and they make them. You have to send a prescription form with them so the lab knows what you want in an orthotic, how much control is needed, skives, arch height, PF grooves, heel cup height, flares and flanges. I would suggest seeing a podiatrist.
