Wearing Flip Flops with Orthotics

Post a new topicby lswavley on Mon Aug 20, 2007 3:18 am

Hi, I have just been told that I need to get Orthotics and I was wondering if I can still wear flip flops with them. Can anyone help with that answer?

From all that I've heard, flip flops, unless they have very solid soles, are not so good for your feet.
I'd suggest checking with your podiatrist.

You can velcro an orthotic to a flip flop, but it is not recommeded to do so. Flip flops aren't really shoes, and for a people with foot problems, there are not something we should be wearing. (Soapbox time) - American society has become so desensitized to decorum (the conventions or requirements of polite behavior), that people now wear flip flops on flights, in restaurants, to church, etc. Some of the ugliest things are feet. People spend hours a day trying to look good, and then throw on a nasty pair of flip flops and let their feet (typically ugly) be seen by the world. (Off my soapbox now) Good luck with the velcro.

Unfortunately I doubt that you can wear flip flops with orthotics-- at least if you mean the kind that have a strap passed between your big toe and your second toe. Full length orthotics go all the way to the end of the shoe, and have no slot for the strap to pass through. The only sandals I have found I can wear with orthotics are Naot and Wolky sandals with removable footbeds. The worst thing about orthotics is how they limit your choice of shoes. The upside of course, is that your feet don't hurt as much. I give myself a break every day to wear regular shoes for an hour or two.

P.S. My podiatrist told me that flip flops damage feet-- even in people whose feet start out normal.
