Post a new topicby Dawne on Wed Mar 26, 2008 9:02 pm

I recently had surgery and now the side of my foot is burning all the time? What could it be?

Plantar warts may be surgically excised or vaporized with a CO2 laser. I will assume the first technique was employed. The burning might be considered normal if <5/10 for pain, up to a point perhaps as long as 7 days post-op, depending on patient activity and size of lesion removed and if pain is local to the site. If the sensation is away from the immediate excision it may be associated with the injection used to anesthetize the wart. If that is the case then a nerve may have been injured temporarily and it may take several weeks to resolve. Moist heat applications and significant nsaid dosing will speed its resolution. Ask your doctor, don't be bashful! Hope that helps.

Thank you. It does make sense. I believe a nerve was damaged/injured during the surgery and since I posted this, the burning sensation comes less often.
