Cantherone to treat plantar warts

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jan 20, 2002 2:09 pm

Help! My 9 year old son had a very small plantar wart on his foot 3 weeks ago. We went to our pediatrician who put cantherone(sp?) liquid on it (he said it contains some extract from a certain type of beetle). It made the wart grow at least 4 times in size. We returned after 2 weeks and he reapplied the cantherone and now after 2 days it has quadrupled in size and the perimeter of the wart is bright red and very painful. The wart is located on the inside of the big toe (knuckle) bone. Could my son be allergic to this treatment? What do I do now?
Thank you so much for any recommendations you could give me.

Your son may very well have an allergy or sensitivity to the ointmnet. You should take you son to see a podiatrist in your area. Plantar warts can be difficult to treat and podiatrists have excellent experience in this area.
