Have budget cuts gone to far?

Post a new topicby Truth Seeker on Mon Sep 07, 2009 11:01 pm

As RSD patients we rarely have anything to laugh about, but I can laugh about this story now, even-so it was not funny at the time when it happened.
When I woke up after surgery, my nose was running, therefore I had asked a nurse who happened to be in the room, if she would be kind enough to bring me a Kleenex.
To the readers of this post I would like to say, please make sure that you are sitting down, because I do not want you to fall down with laughter, when I tell you the punch line.
The nurse responded by telling me, if I wanted a Kleenex I should have brought it from home, because the hospital no longer supplied tissues to patients.
At first I thought she must be kidding, but when she left the room and did not return, I realised this was no joke.
Needless to say, I had no choice but to use my bed sheet and at that time I thought it would be OK, since I foolishly believed that they would change the sheets daily, but unfortunately, I was wrong here as well.
For the next couple of days I watched the performance of hospital staff, how well or badly they were treating the patients and in summary I can say, I could not get out of there fast enough.
Budget cuts should never effect patients, because there are many other ways where we could cut off some of the fat.

Hello,

Not funny. Shocking, actually. I would have thought that a compassionate person
would have fetched toilet paper, or something. Way back, people entered medicine
to help. It is only about money now. I noticed something of concern, when I was getting
I.V.s a lot. They go through plenty of tape. The big no-no is that once they touch it,
it is no longer sterile. AND, they put strips on a cart, to save time. She said the cart
was cleaned, just couldn't say when. I didn't want anything to be trapped next to my
skin. It was just swabbed, and left my skin without its natural, defensive oils. I was
told to stop being difficult. Last straw for me.
