i have a question can anyone help

Post a new topicby christine1003 on Thu Jul 23, 2009 8:35 am

i have rsd in my right arm i am awaiting a stimulator my question is last night my boyfriend noticed a patch of really red skin proberly 2 inches by 2 inches almost a perfect square it it hard to the touch and hurts when you touch it of course i am now aware of it so it hurts some when i put a bra on, the question is does the change in skin have to be in the limb with rsd or can it be somewwhere else or do i need to be really concerned
any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you

Christine,
This is a very interesting question, which I am not sure about the answer. Is this spot on your back or shoulder? Since it is so uniform in shape, could you had a piece of tape or some type of patch on that spot? I was thinking it might be a reaction to some type adhesive. I can't have band-aids on certain parts of my body. I get red welts and they take off my skin.
Dr Hooshmann's website (www.rsdrx.com) is the website that will give you the most information about this.

Hun, If I understood u correctly u said this red place was in center of your back hun.....I would have it checked by MD. Reason is RSD normally attacks the limbs of the body then later can attack in some cases internally .............Being hard is another reason I would have my Dr. look at it not saying its not from RSD. But I have had it for 10 yrs 7 of those full body meaning all my limbs.....And I have never had a red hard place now we do get whats called RSD Rashes but mine have not been hard but have showed up in the wierdest places and are very painful.................Hope I was some help Shey;)

The patch you are talking about may very well be scar tissue.
I had a patch like this for years, it was the size and shape of a Ravioli, it was very hard, but I had no feeling in it for a very long time(years)
My pocket or patch if you like was right beside my incision on my foot, but I do know that they can appear almost anywhere and are not necessarily do to surgery.
Please research scar tissue....
From what I understand, some cause pain, others do not, but I would assume that you bra strap is irritating it.

thats exactly the size like a ravioli, it is freaking me out, i am going to try to see if i can get an appointment to see the dr but now its like who do i call my primary or pain management who is treating my rsd?? the medical care is weird here in florida
you know now that i think of it maybe it had something to do with the trial stimulator for a procedure that was supposed to take 45 minutes took 4 hours becaue they kept hitting resistance ans they brought in the head neurologist and he got the lead in but the area he did it in did not take to the numbing medication so it felt like i was being stabbed and it is around the same spot but that june 1st would it take this long to come out?

Christine,

Call the PM clinic and ask them if you should come in to have it checked out. Explain to the nurse that it is in the area of the stimulator trial and you are worried about it. This could be very important. It may have been red and not bothered you in the beginning. The constant rubbing from your bra may have irritated it more. This could cause problems with the stimulator leads.

What part of Florida are you in? I am in northeast corner in Jacksonville.
