Re: jerking legs and armsMeg,
They call that jerking myoclonic jerks. If you look up myoclonus it will tell you more about it. I have seen videos on You Tube of RSD patients with myoclonic jerking. Their limbs have a mind of their own. We thought my daughter was having partial seizures but it turned out she was having myoclonic jerks in left arm and shoulder. They have a seizure like look without the unconciousness. They can be very scary. I was looking at Dr Hooshmand website for a short answer to your question, there is no short answer. In the CRPS Abstract he has a long discussion about movement disorders. Here is part of his discussion about the four areas used in diagnosing RSD/CRPS "....FOUR PRINCIPLES OF CRPS EFFERENT (MOTOR) RESPONSE The second diagnostic principle is efferent motor dysfunction in the form of vasoconstriction, flexor spasm, movement disorder including dystonia and tremor. In more advanced cases, myoclonic jerks due to spinal cord sensitization and de-afferentation develop. These myelogenic myoclonic jerks are due to the enlargement of peripheral receptive fields of central pain projecting neurons in superficial laminae I and II of the dorsal horn...." http://www.rsdrx.com/CRPSABSTRACT.htm I hope this helps. Re: jerking legs and arms-2 more itemsHello again Reta!
I should know this stuff as my sister had mobility damage and had the same symtoms! My RSD is really bad since last Wed. I cannot deal withschool, worry about bills, and waiting for disabilty atthe same time. My radial nerve palsy (my latest arm with RSD and the arm I burned is shaking right now. At this point I do not know what doc to call. Oh yes i almost forgot - has your daughter ever suffered from the singape symptoms where she actuaclly passed out and are li mbs have jerked around due to lack of oxegn to her brain when she stood up? Thanks again! Meg
Re: jerking legs and armspiecmeal questionHey it is me for the last ti me If your daughter does have the singape does her tongue get numb and does she experience a wierd taste the day prior and addigtionally if she does also exprince this does her ears ring afters?
Re: jerking legs and armsMeg,
I missed your question about my daughter. I do not think she suffers those symptoms. She was told that she has a movement disorder or tic, but not Tourette's because she doesn't have a vocal tic. She does not loss consciousness. She does have some warning about the tic coming on, it is called an aura. She can stop some of the tics but the cost is high, sheer exhaustion. She has not seriously injuried herself. She has slapped herself in the face, dropped/thrown glasses or whatever she is holding and slammed her head against the wall. Reta PS I looked up these terms to share. Myo- (prefix): A prefix denoting a relationship to muscle. Myoclonic twitch: A rapid, involuntary muscle contraction, particularly near the eye. Myoclonic tics resemble, and may be mistaken for, tics. Like tics, they tend to occur more often when the person is under stress; unlike tics, they are not preceded by any sensation and they cannot be delayed. Myoclonus: A condition of abnormal contraction of muscles or portions of muscles. Myoclonic seizure: A seizure characterized by jerking (myoclonic) movements of a muscle or muscle group, without loss of consciousness.
