looking for help and answersHi,
My 14 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with rsd. She also has adhd and mildly mental retardation (these we have known for 8 years). She has never had any injuries. Is it possbile to have rsd with no nerve injuries? She started out with discoloration of her fingers about 3-4 years ago. We have gone to several doctors and they said it was normal for some people to have this discoloration along with the cold and or hot temperatures in her fingers and toes. She also complains of her limbs have a "numbing/tingling" sensation, ( like her limbs have fallen asleep.) Her condition withing the last couple of months have gone from what I call "chicken wire" on her upper thighs and now within the last 2 weeks appearing on her arms. After taking her to the University of Iowa City Childrens Hospital, we have just been informed that she has rsd The doctor is looking into physical therapy for her. We will be talking to the doctor on Wednesday and hopefully get more information. Please, if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help and suggestions!!
Re: looking for help and answersHi i do not have RSD, but an older friend of mine does..I am 3 or 4 years older than your daughter, but have been studying possible treatments for my friend...Supposedly anything invasive can actual Spread the RSD...but there is a non evasive(i think thats the right word) treatment called "hyperbaric Oxygen therapy" It uses pure oxygen at a high level. In 13 out of 15 studies, most patients have been able to return to a normal life. And it reduces the pain and swelling. This treatment, has also been used to treat people with like Autism and other things like that. If you are intrested in the information on that, feel free to email me at...[moderator note: e-mail address has been removed]....And i would be happy to email you the info that I have found....God Bless and many blessings to you and you daughter
Re: looking for help and answersHi Jkschmell,
I am so sorry that your baby has this horrific disorder and if you don't mind I will be praying for you and yours. RSD can be caused from a simple sprain, a blister on an area, or surgery... Any trauma can cause this to flare. Your daughter has a couple of favors in her corner, one is her age, usually children have a much greater chance of RSD going into remission if caught and treated early. And the second is that it was diagnosed early. The physical therapy needs to get started as soon as possible and as agressively as tolerated. The docs will probably prescribe meds to keep her comfortable for this is a very painful disease. The hyperbaric therapy that Babymonkey mentioned is an option and you can find a lot of info by doing a Google search on "HBOT" of "hyperbaric oxygen therapy" Here is the first page of the Google search, "http//www.google.com/searchhl=en&q=hyperbaric+oxygen+therapy&btnG=Search" The success rate is approx 40%-65% and the cost are generally $4k-$6k for the treatment regimin and not all insurance companies recognize this treatment for RSD. I hope this helps in some way to alleviate the feeling of hopelessness and helplessness and may the Lord grant you the answers to your questions and treatment needs, Be Blessed, g0j0g0
