Something else to think about, sorry...This is the time of year where people line up and sign up for flu shots, the whisper of " did you get your flu shot yet" gets louder as fall approaches.
I had never had a flu shot before, but with full body RSD I was afraid that I would not be able to deal with the flu as well, consequently I paid my fee and signed up, now all I had to wait for was the scheduled date. On the scheduled date, I was handed a medical form to be filled out, which was simple enough, until I read: " Have you ever been diagnosed with GBS " All of a sudden, my blood pressure went up, my heart was racing, I began to sweat and fear overcame me. Instantly, I ripped up the form and asked to have my money refunded, needless to say, I received some very strange looks from the people around me. My reason for ripping up that form was based upon the reality, that there are by far to many correlations between RSD GBS and MS, all of which relate to "cause unknown." I have absolutely no way of knowing, if my diagnoses of RSD was correct to begin with and I simply could not take any chances. Please, I am not trying to discourage anyone from having there flu shot, but I would suggest, that you mention your RSD to the individual injecting you and hopefully it will be a doctor who has even the slightest understanding of what RSD is. thank you for your post. it made me stop and think for a minute. i have always been leery of the flu shot to begin with. my fear is no doctor can tell me whats its made up of. i get the same answer, 3% of some egg stuff and 97% unknown???? seems weird to me that none knows the 97% makeup. your thoughts would be appreciated. dave
Re: Something else to think about, sorry...Hi puckster,
It is nice to hear from you again. I feel as you do, always have been leery of these shots. Over the years I have listened to many people who had the shot and got the flu anyway, so what is the point? Prevention of course is a good thing, if the immune system is low, which most certainly applies to those of us who suffer with and from RSD, but on the other hand, our immune system has so many defense mechanisms which are working full and overtime within us already, these mechanisms are natural, not artificial. A natural mechanism, knows what to destroy and what to protect. To be honest, I have no idea what is in that stuff and to research it would be useless, because we would never find the whole truth. I prefer to trust my instincts, because they are there to protect us. Stay in touch, when you feel up to it. Truth Seeker
Re: Something else to think about, sorry...Howdy,
I remember, on a show about vaccines, one sentence that still puzzles me. Long ago, in a crowded marketplace, there was found an apricot, that developed a strange mold. It is this mold, that has been nurtured since discovery, which is the main ingredient of the flu vaccine. No one knows how it got there, why it was interesting, how it works, or... why they cannot replicate the conditions of its creation. Freak of nature, really. I think it has something to do with yeast. Some sourdough breads, come from yeast that has been carefully grown for a century. An original, that they break a small piece off of. I only had the shot once. Worst flu I ever had. No more for me.
Re: Something else to think about, sorry...How are you!
With out a doubt I always put my disease down, even at school as it is a disabler at times. I can look at my computer and just not know what to do. These are the days that I go into my sinapea modes with bloodpreasure. I get my flu shot at the doctors office as I do not want to chance getting sick and I have an appoingtment anyway. I have fou nd with myself, as long as I stay stress free another ha-ha in the winter months and keeep washing my hands, i stay healthy as the disease does not cause me to be sick but rather if i get sick it triggers the RSD to be worse. anyway have a great day!
Re: Something else to think about, sorry...When I was in the Navy, I had to get a flu shot every year and I GOT SICK EVERY YEAR after the shot. I have stopped getting the shot and I rarely get sick now.
The last respiratory problem was over 7 years ago after sleeping on a feather bed at a hotel. I figured out the connection with feather beds or pillows and now avoid them. Reta
