Sleep is the Key

We spend a third of our lives sleeping. That's, on average, approximately 27 years sleeping in a lifetime (this is of course assuming we get our recommended 8 hours sleep). Time is the most valuable resource.

Now, I'm 20 years old and I'm looking for answers. I'll be spending 20 years sleeping in the rest of my lifetime. That's a lot of time to be spent either wasted or cherished. As such, I want to maximize my sleeping ability so I can sleep efficiently. Anyone got any tips for improving sleep in any facet (brain function, body function/restoration, etc.)?

I'm just wondering if this is an appropriate forum to be asking this question, or does anybody know of sleep experts that would be willing to share information?

Jeff- don't be too quick to dismiss sleep. Without it dogs and rats die after only 5 days!

I was just diagnosed with a sleep disorder so I've been doing a lot of research. Here's something that might help you-go to YouTube and look for "CBS News, 60 Minutes, Sleep Deprivation". You'll find 2 videos-2parts of one show. A fascinating half hour.

Other than that, since you're young and presumably healthy, try meditation, yoga or google for "sleep music". I'm sure you'll find a ton. They do work for most people to get a very restful night's sleep. Also, it would not hurt you to eat organic and eat foods that will keep your body alkaline. (You can google that too.)

You could conceivably live to 100 or more if you eat right and keep stress at bay! And I'm not tallking shuffling around with no teeth, I'm talking active and mentally sound.

I am probably 10 years older than your mother and we were brought up on food with additives and twinkies. Now, we are seeing some of the consequences of that diet. You may have eaten better but if you REALLY eat better from now on....just think Hugh Hefner with 2 babes (they are 25) at 100!! That should be a goal!!
