Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

I broke one of my sesamoid bones....I took a nasty fall during a storm...My knee went one way my ankle or. fall happend 3 to 4 weeks ago...My knee has still be hurting after a visit to my dr. weekend we discovered i had broken a sesamoid bone...an xray did confirm bone completely broken. (I even got to see it) only thing done broken bone a pad at bottom of my foot.... basically doesn't do much relieve very little pressure. Shouldn't bone or my foot have been immobilized? Should I be on crutches or anything? I'm still feeling pain in my foot...i'm still putting a lot of pressure on my foot... treatment doesn't seem right. any suggestions....As my knee i realize i need to see an orthopedic doc. appointment is scheduled.

The problem with sesamoid fractures are they they need to be immobilzed immediately if there is any chance of the fracture healing. Even if this is done, there is only a small chance it will heal. Often, these sesmoids heal with fibrous tissue between them. This is not considered to be a true healed bone. However, if it often not painful. This is probably what your doctor is hoping will occur. You may want to see a podiatrist for a second opinion. If you are still having pain in a few weeks/months, you may want to consider surgery to have a portion of the broken bone removed.
