Cycling Hot Spots

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Jun 20, 2001 10:50 pm

When riding longer distances (75-100 miles), I get hot spots under the balls of my feet where the pedal is located. I recently switched from mountain bike SPD pedals to rode pedals and shoes but this has not eliminated the pain. The pain temporarily goes away if I get off the bike and walk around. 15-25 miles later it's back. There is no pain while walking or standing. What's the likely cause of this and how do I prevent it?

The pain is being caused by the large amount of pressure being placed in the same area for a long period of time. Your muscles in that area are becoming fatigued and cramping. There are orthotics that can be made to fit into bike shoes that are thin and made out of a tough plastic or even steel. This can distribute the pressure better.
