Foot Pain

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Sep 18, 2001 8:18 pm

I hike quite often and have no foot problems. The other day I was at the end of a hike that required the last mile or so to be walked on pavement. I stepped off of the trail and walked about 20 feet on the pavement and suddenly had a pain on the outside edge of my foot. It only hurts when I walk. What could this be and how can I treat it quickly?

The most common injury on the outside of your foot is the base of the fifth metatarsal bone. The tendon that connects to it may be starined or you may even have a stress fracture in that area. Therefore, the best thing you can do is rest it and see a podiatrist if it continues to hurt so you can be properly diagnosed.
