FOOT PAINMy daughter is 15 years old and runs cross country, indoor and outdoor track. For the last 6 weks she has been bothered by pain on the top of her right foot. After an x-ray, the family doctor diagnoised the pain as tendonitis and prescribed Advil and ice after her workouts. The pain appears to be in the area of her extensor digitorum and/or extensor hallicus tendons. She will not stop working out and the pain persists. Is there anything else you can suggest?
Re: FOOT PAINThe extensor tendons typically become painful when the achilles tendon is too short in active, growing teenager. Therefore, she should definitely stretch her achilles more and probably see a podiatrist or orthopedist to determine if the achilles is abnormally sort if the pain persists. If it is too short, she may benefit from slight heel lifts in her shoes to help her feet function better. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
