Fratured Sesamoid BoneGreetings. I am a very active 25 year old female. About a month ago I awakened by a sharp pain in my right foot/toe a (no swelling). It went away by morning time, so I thought it wa just a dream. A week later I felt pain again in night. next morning when I got out of bed, it would hurt to walk on it, so I would move my toe back th thinking it just sore from wearing high heels. next day, I could not walk same. I callled around a podiatrist, could not get an appointment anor two days. By time I got to doctors office, I could not put any weight on ball of my foot it terribly swollen. My podiatrist took x-ray stated I had a fractured sesamoid bone. He put a soft cast on me until swelling went away, a week later he put a hard cast. It has been 10 days my hard cast (below knee to bottom edge of my toes. Yesterday I started getting pain swelling.
So my questions : Do think I caught frature in time, or I had bee not know it?
my toes supposed to be immobilized completey? Because I can move mine back th, I think is is making it hurt.
If so can I do to immobilize m, because unconsiously I move try to strecth m out.
finally, do think it will completely heal so I can go back to my normal activity level? I like to walk on treadmill, spinning class, kickboxing, yoga, pilates, weight lifting. Is re any of se I should not do after fracture? as far as high heels, am I condemed to use flats?
I apologize length of question, I am starting to get a little worried my lifestyle is going to have to wait. Thank so much r time.

Re: Fratured Sesamoid BoneThe hard cast is the best treatment for you. The cast cannot be so tight that it does not allow you to move your toes because that would cut off circulation to your foot. However, try not to move your toes as much as possible. You probably did catch the fracture in time. The problem of non-healing occurs more often when people wait for months before seeking treatment. Unfortunately, the sesamoids are small bones that can take longer to heal than big bones so it is understandable that you are anxious. However, the only thing you can do is wait and be patient. Once it heals, I would stay away from kickboxing and only use the treadmill sparingly. High heels are something you should avoid but will not be a problem as long as the sesamoid has healed completely. Good luck and please write back if you have any further questions.
