Help! Busted Tendon!?

Post a new topicby Nisha on Tue Sep 04, 2007 12:32 pm

- Fell down the stairs while running for the train to work on 23rd July 07.
- Ankle twisted rather badly
- X-rays taken on day of fall at hospital showed no bone breakage
- Major swelling to whole ankle and foot area and off work for the last 7 weeks on minimal pay :(
- Anti-Inflamatory drugs taken to help reduce swelling + painkillers
- X-rays taken again since recovery of ankle sprain taking longer than expected
- Hospital results showed no bone breakage
- Referred to orthopaedic for MRI scan this week as Doc thinks my tendon may be ruptured!!
- Me now researching this possible diagnosis > Scared!

Q: How do I know for sure that I have a broken tendon?
1) I did not hear a sharp snap in my ankle at the time of the fall as I was busy falling.
2) I can just about stand on my toe but cannot place my whole foot (ball and heel part) on the floor whilst bending my knee.
3) I can push points on my foot and ankle; still sore but no acute pain when I press down.

Q: If I have broken my tendon, what is the procedure for fixing the damage?

Q: How long will my ankle take to recover if it is a broken tendon?

Q: I hear the Doc's can assign a support/walking boot to help with walking whilst the ankle recovers from surgery - Can I walk on stairs? (Travelling to work involves several flights of stairs!)

Thank you in advance for your insights.
