Pain in Arch, Please Help!!!!!1

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 30, 2002 6:02 am

I am a competitive runner that is currently training for the Chicago Marathon in October. I run at the time of injury 18 miles a week. I was obviously in the begining of the program. However my running came to a halt this past Tuesday.

I noticed pain in my arch during my run two days prior to stopping. The pain seemed to worsen and eventually pain was evident even just walking. So I discontinued training and completely rested for 72hours. I even put myself on crutches. I thought that it was getting better( discoloration and swelling decreased)so I decided to cut my yard(1/2 acre). The pain is now worse than ever.

My question is what muscle/tendon is located near the ball of the foot? Also can this be plantar fascitis if it does not include any pain in the heel? I did some research and am under the understanding that plantar fascitis usually includes pain in the heel. I have no pain in the heel. Just in my arch only nearby the ball of my foot?

How much rest is necessary and is a running career still possible with high arches. Also I should have advised you that I am a pronator(sp). I appreciate your time in advance.

If you over-pronate then you do not have high arches. In either case, a running carrer is possible but you may need orthotics to help support your feet. It is probably not plantar fasciitis because you are right about the pain usually being in the heel. However, there are many ligaments and structures in the area of the ball of the foot that may be affected. Therefore, you really need to see a podiatrist to have your foot examined and properly diagnosed and treated.
