tailbone/lower back pain

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jul 07, 2002 2:23 pm

I ran yesterday for 30 mins and woke up the next morning with a pain on my left side of my tailbone. It is just a the top of my buttocks and does not radiate anywhere else. I had a tailbone injury from falling many years ago and do recognise the pain to be of the tailbone. I read about piriformis syndrome as a possible ailment. I need to know whether to ice it or to heat it.

Both ice and heat can be beneficial depending upon what you are treating. Normally, ice is used to reduce inflammation however and heat is used to get someone ready for exercise. Therefore, icing the area would probably be your best option. Obviously, if the pain gets worse you should see a doctor and discontinue treatment on your own.
