Running Injuries

HI Doc. I am a semi pro soccer player who has had sprains in both ankles in years gone by. Both have been fine recently. I have a sharp pain about 2 inches above my left ankle on the outside, every time I bear weight on it. I have had an x-ray as I assumed it may be a stress fracture but nothing showed up. Before I get an MRI scan do you have any ideas as to what it might be? Message sent on PHYSIO's orders.
