from sesamoid to top of mid-foot painAbout 8 months ago, I suffered a tibial sesamoid stress fx. I spent 5 months in a walking boot and crutches, and then saw a surgeon who basically recommended getting off both to see if I could manage the pain.
On my own volition, I had custom soft-orthotics made, (not the hard plastic ones that caused the fx in the first place, and they helped tremendously. Now, however, 2 weeks after I abandoned my crutches, the pain on the top of my mid-foot (where the laces start at the toe end) is so excruciating, I can barely walk. They're very comfortable New Balance shoes, so I don't think it's my footware. What could this be? Could it be from lack of use? Could it be from the metatarsal pad they place under the orthotic? Could it be a calcium deposit? Will it go away? I'm 34 year old male, and so frustrated by my foot, I feel like cutting it off! Thanks very much. Also, before anyone has surgery, I highly recommend getting a custom soft-orthotics. They cost me $200, but will hopefully allow me to prevent surgery... (They would have definitely, had I purchased them instead of the hard orthotic that caused the fx!)

I agree with the orthotics becaus ethey can help tremedously. However, you may benefit from an anti-inflammatory medicine to ease the pain from the swelling as well as physical therapy. If the pain continues, you should see a podiatrist to be accurately diagnosed and treated.
