Hemi Cap Bunionectomy & Sesamoiditis

On January 20th, 2009 I had a bunionectomy via a Hemi Cap Implant. Overall, the pain was minimal and my doc appeared to be very pleased with my progress. Now that I am out of the stiff shoe and into tennis shoes (or sometimes hiking boots) and am flexing my toe in order to gain a larger range of motion and minimize scar tissue I am having fairly significant pain on the ball of my foot at the metatarsal head of the big toe. My doc says this is most likely caused by the sesamoid bones. He says they were immobilized and now they are able to move around and do so when I walk. He gave me no information on if this is normal for this type of surgery or what my recovery time will be or whether I will ever be out of pain again. I’m thinking now I have sesamoiditis I would like to know what the recovery time for this might be and maybe what I should or shouldn’t be doing. I’m fairly active working in the garden, walks in the woods and working out (Bowflex and stationary bike). I’m scheduled to do the other foot in a month, but am having second thoughts as to whether I should go forward until I know that the first foot is going to be a success. Main questions: is this normal and the recovery time. Any thoughts?
